Some debit cards — especially from RBC and Desjardins lack a CVV (the 3-digit code on the back). Since Bree uses the CVV to verify your identity, this can cause set up issues.
RBC (Royal Bank of Canada)
RBC physical debit cards sometimes don’t include a CVV, but you can request a virtual debit card that does.
To get your virtual card:
- Log in to your RBC mobile app
- Go to your debit card settings
- Tap View Virtual Debit Card
- Use the CVV from the virtual card when adding your card in Bree
- Your virtual card works just like your physical card and should pass Bree’s verification

Desjardins
Desjardins debit cards usually lack a CVV, which can prevent identity verification in Bree. Some cards may have a CVV, depending on the card or how it was issued.
If your Desjardins card doesn’t have a CVV:
- Contact Desjardins - Ask if a card with CVV can be issued or enabled

Why does Bree require a CVV?
The CVV helps us verify your identity and prevent fraud. It’s a standard step when linking your debit card to Bree.
